1. Make sure you use a non-scented type of soap at home, do not use bar soap, use pump soap. Keep the bandage on overnight or at least 4 to 5 hours after your intial tattoo session. Once removing the bandage, soak your tattoo in a warm bath (not shower guys) for at least 10 minutes, massage it gently to get rid of the Vaseline, THIS STEP IS CRUCIAL" once you do this step pat dry with a clean towel, wait a few minutes and if your tattoo looks gooey still, soak again until all the vaseline is out. If you do not do this step you will get bad scabbing which leds to touchups, we perfer that you have little to no scabbing.
2. repeat this step every morning and night for 3 to 4 days, your tattoo will develop a layer of dead skin which is good, but to much dead skin means scabbing. Once it gets tight and itchy then you can start using an extremely light layer of lotion, DO NOT USE LOTION UNTIL YOUR TATTOO IS FLAKEY AND ITCHY" cream smoothers the tattoo and creates infection.
3. repeat lotion step until your tattoo no longer requires it, as well if you start to see pimples or dots this is from excessive lotion, that either has been trapped in the skin or clogged your pores, do not pick or pop these just stop using lotion.
4. Come by anytime to show the artist your tattoo to see if you need a touchup, generally after 3 weeks you should come by. Touchups are free for the first 3 MONTHS after your tattoo, after that you will be charged the min. charge of $80. This rule is not a hard one to follow. For our out of town guests we give you 5 months after the intial tattoo.
5. Complications that you could face: Swelling - some areas such as hands, feet, legs, knees, under the upper arm, elbow can swell excessively after a tattoo because of pressure and where it is. Heavier set people face the most problems with stress to the tattoo site so its advised you stay off that area or not bend or move that area until you are past the first stages. If you do notice swelling come in immediately so we can ensure proper healing. If you experience hotness, extreme redness around the tattoo, a smell and discharge from cracked areas, that sort of thing you probably have infected your tattoo by allowing something to come in contact with the area (dog hair, dirt, dust, etc) please come in so we can take a look and give you proper attention to the matter. Reaction to ink generally comes after the tattoo has healed, if you would like to learn more about different types of ink reactions please come in or email us and we would love to help you out.
